Build-up Dutch pavilion, World Expo Yeosu • Designed for Gielissen and Totems

After 4 visits to Seoul to brief and meet the constructor of the pavilion, I traveled last week to the Expo site in Yeosu, to coordinate the final phase of the installation work. The work is near it's end after 6 months of hard work. The result is really surprising and colorful. A huge unfolded map (of the Netherlands) is the central object of the space, where the visitor experiences a 3 minute lasting presentation about living in the Delta, projected on the map. Below the map two areas colored blue and orange, areas to get a picture about our life during the ages of cultivation, and our important role in the world.

World Expo 2012, Yeosu • Designed for Gielissen & Totems

Yes, we got it!  After the World expo in Shanghai the new World Expo will take place in Yeosu, South Korea next year. A month ago we presented our concept ideas for the Dutch commissioner. A period of tensed waiting followed, but today we got the great news. The concept fits within the main theme of the expo; ‘The Living Ocean & Coast’.

A gigantic Dutch Map as an Architectural object where visitors experience our way of living in the Dutch Deltas.

Shanghai Auto show 2011 • Designed for Pico & Totems

A project where Volkswagen cars and Skoda’s fuse together on one stand. One world with both their own international brand communication, architecture and design. Unfortunately you can’t win every competition, although I believed in it.

Algeria wins the Gold Medal at Shanghai

What better way to close the participation of Algeria to the Universal Exhibition of Shanghai: the pavilion of Algeria won the gold medal in its category for its efforts to develop the theme, ahead of Turkey and the Peru.

This distinction awarded by the International Jury of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) will consecrate the active participation of Algeria in the biggest exposition ever held.

IAA Hannover 2010 • Peugeot, Designed for Totems.

Totems asked me to design the IAA commercial vehicles show presentation for Peugeot. The goal was to become one of the design agencies on the clients shortlist. Too bad we didn’t win the competition but this was calculated.

The positive news is that we made a surprising impression and are now added on this list.

Next time competition more luck!

Algeria Pavilion • Grand opening comes closer

After months of building, the deadline to finish the pavilion and exhibits comes closer and the grand opening of the World Expo in Shanghai is soon.

I made several trips to the Expo site to supervise the building process. Inspiring and intense moments due to differences in culture and working methods. As a designer it was unique to work and design in a different cultural style and language. An Arab styling, authentic versus modern; Made in China!

InterSolar 2010, München & others • Targray Designed for Glocomm

Unfortunately this project was not a winner. The client wanted a more traditional stand design.

The design was based on materials intelligence with a link to the company innovative productline in the solar, silicon industry. A skin of translucent disks reflecting a spectrum of colours. Lightboxes within the skin tells the visitor more about the company and their products.
